2026 MTN Busoga Masaza Cup:
- Opening match: Busiki 0-1 Bugweri
Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV witnessed the official opener of the 2026 MTN Busoga Masaza Cup at Namutumba District Headquarters playground on Saturday, 15th August.
Hundreds of people from Busoga Kingdom and other well-wishers attended this exciting duel as Bugweri got a perfect start with a 1-0 away win over Busiki.
Ali Kiyemba headed home beautifully from a Tom Babalanda corner kick to give the visitors maximum points in the 62nd minute.
Kiyemba had been a culprit in the 53rd minute he was put through one-on-one with Bugweri goalkeeper Collin Wesonga through another Babalanda’s well crafted cross, but he blazed over the bar.
He went close again in the 67th minute, controlling the ball inside the box only to fire inches wide.
Busiki thought they had a late equalizer in the 87th minute when substitute Nicolas Mukibi slotted home, but the home crowd’s celebrations were cut short as he was flagged offside.

Bugweri’s Babalanda was named man of the match, while Busiki captain Tibita Rajabu took the second best player gong.
Both will receive UGX 200,000 and UGX 100,000 respectively, courtesy of MTN Uganda.
In the pipeline:
Match day two on 30th August 2026 shall witness Busiki travel to Bukooli Bugiri whilst Bugweri host Bukooli Namayingo at home.

We assembled the team late. I think our opponents were more prepared. I hear they had two friendlies while for us, this was both a friendly and competitive match. The opponents were also more aggressive than us and all that comes back to preparations.
