Netball Final:
For the first time ever in the history of the Bika Bya Baganda football championship, Mmamba Kakoboza was crowned as champion.
Mmamba Kakoboza overcame three-time winners Nkima 4-3 in post-match penalties after normal time had ended goal-less at the Muteesa II Wankulukuku stadium on Saturday, 6th June 2026.
Goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya saved two penalties but missed his own kick as Mmamba Kakoboza etched their name in the history books of the competition played since 1950.
Dissan Galiwango, captain Ezikiel Duncan Sseninde, Nicholas Kabonge and Samuel Nsubuga all scored their kicks with Kigonya hitting the left hand goal post.
Abdallah Ssentongo, Allan Jjumba and skipper Ssekitoleko scored for Nkima clan.
Goalkeeper Kigonya was the hero for Mmamba Kakoboza saving two penalty shots from Edgar William Katumba and another.
Individual Awards winners:
Mmamba Kakoboza’s Nicholas Kabonge was Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Nelson Senkatuka (Mbogo) finished as top scorer and Sulaiman Kibalama from Nkima clan was outstanding goalkeeper.
“This victory means a lot to us all as Mmamba Kakoboza clan. This is our first shield. We worked so hard as a clan after so many years. I thank all the players, our coaches, management and every stakeholder who has supported us in the best way possible” Sseninde, Mmamba Kakoboza’s captain remarked.
Meanwhile, the Netball shield was won by Nte who beat Mmamba Gabunga in the final.
Nte won 48-47 in a closely contested finale for their first ever shield.
There were also competitions in football (above 30’s and 40’s), chess and scrabble (in luganda dialect).
The Katikiro Oweek. Charles Peter Mayiga graced the official closing ceremony as chief guest.
Owwek. Mayiga commended the different clans and the ministry of arts, youth & arts led by Oweek. Robert Serwanga Salongo for the good organization exhibited.
Telecommunications giants Airtel Uganda Limited are the main sponsors of the Bika Bya Baganda sports tournament.
