Emphasising the importance of early chemistry and physical conditioning, Silverbacks head coach Mandy Juruni welcomed his squad to camp this week for a vital 10-day preparation period before the next window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.
The decision to assemble the team early is already paying dividends, according to Juruni, who praised the players’ energy during day one’s split schedule of morning weight training and afternoon court work.
“I am happy that we’ve brought the team early as we prepare for the second window,” Juruni remarked. “We are all excited to be here. I am looking forward to these 10 days. Day one has been good.”
The early camp structure is designed to maximise the impact of three heavyweight friendly matches scheduled over four days.
The Silverbacks will line up against regional rivals Rwanda on Wednesday and Saturday, split by a high-intensity clash against South Sudan on Thursday.
Management is also managing a staggered arrival timeline for key personnel. While nine players completed the opening sessions, the squad’s leadership is set for a major boost.
Inspirational captain Robinson Opong is expected to land and join his teammates by Monday, followed by the final two members of the roster, who will integrate into the camp as the week progresses.
